You know when some one enters your work place and says (with a shocked face) "OH are YOU the manager??"
*Rolls eyes* - I HATE IT!!!!!
So, after receiving the 'shocked face' so many times I knew it was time to up my game...and it all started with my WARDROBE!! Theses are the few changes I made to make my presence known as a BOSS, and not only has it helped me with my working relationships but also in general public, like making a complaint.
I know it seems minor, but we got to face facts people.....IMAGE IS EVERYTHING
1. LIPSTICK
Lipstick is a good way to show you mean business. Only bold and confident people can wear lipstick and pull it off. I would opt for a good quality one that would last you most of the day because you do not have time to keep topping up. I would suggest strong and darker colors like red or deep raspberry rather than pastel pink because, well, pink is not professional is it?
2. HIGH HEELS
How many business people do you see in flat shoes?...hardly any! and there is a good reason for this because in heels, there is power! lol Ok not magical powers but they hold status and credibility If you can walk around for 8 hours in a pair of heels.....you get ratings. Also it gives off a perception of professionalism and sophistication. Now ladies, there is no need to run out and buy yourself a pair of red bottom shoes, but quality does matter because it can determine how comfortable you are in them. Also they do not have to be 6 inches, even a kitten heel will do..as long as they are not FLAT! (Straight face)
3. DITCH THE HOOD
Wearing hoods is a no no for me, I dont care how much the coat cost there is no coat I would wear to work as a BOSS that has a hood on it. Try coats with fur collars or chunky knit collars to keep warm in the winter, To avoid the rain, use an umbrella, preferably those long golf ones if you can be bothered to carry it. Blazers are the way to go in the spring/summer months.
4. NAIL CARE
Half chipped nail polish is not a good look and trust me people always notice your hands and nails. There is no need to go and professionally get your nails done, if your a DIY girl then just keep an eye on how your hands are looking. Again, no wild colors, neutral colors are best
.
5. SHIRTS
Shirts are the way to go, and you can always tell when someone is wearing a good quality shirt. Be carefull with the fit, you do not want it popping open at the seams when you are sitting down. A fitted or loser shirt could be ideal. Everyone should invest in a classic white shirt, which you can wear with practically anything.
6. PENCIL SKIRTS AND TAILORED TROUSERS
Pencil skirts are super sexy and smart, as with tailored trousers. Skirts are nice in the warmer months, team with a shirt or peplum top and your good to go. Jeans and mini skirts - leave for the weekend.
7. LOSE THE MATCHING WOOLLY SCARF AND HAT
Woolly doesn't really make the final cut for me to be honest. Leather gloves, floppy hats and shawls are a more sophisticated option in the winter seasons. They will still keep you warm and probably last a little bit longer.
8. The Bag
Go for satchel/briefcase style bags (they look like your carrying something important lol). Oversize bags can work too. Again go for a quality one for longer durability and it will also look better
9. Get a Watch
Watches are lovely accessories to wear without over doing it. Any watch will do....as long as its not plastic....need I say more?
10. Get great underwear!!!!
Yes confidence and feeling great starts underneath your clothes! invest in good quality underwear! its something I always say to my friends..get measured and start wearing the correct bra size. If you have a gap where the bra is supposed to sit in between your boobs then its the wrong size. If your bra rides up at the back....its the wrong size. if you wear the correct underwear, it provides a great base for what ever clothes you put on, making you look even more fab.xxxx
